With so many local family attractions nearby, you really won’t struggle to keep the kids entertained on a holiday in North Devon. Here are just a few of our local favourites...
Only a short drive from Wheel Farm Cottages is Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, which is home to a fantastic array of reptiles, exotic birds and wildlife, including lions, penguins, sea lions and meerkats. There are also several animatronic dinosaurs hidden amongst the tropical trees, such as the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Also onsite is a museum, café and large indoor soft play area.
Famous for being home to the Exmoor beast, the award-winning Exmoor Zoo is a wonderful place to take the kids. The zoo has more than 175 breeds of animals, many of which are classified as rare, these include wolves, exotic birds and many smaller animals, which are not normally seen at zoos. There are also several live talks throughout the day, where you can get up close to some of the animals.
Exmoor Zoo also has an outdoor play area and café/restaurant, as well as plenty of parking.
On the edge of Combe Martin is the historic Watermouth Castle, which is a great family friendly attraction, and ideal for those with young children. Visitors can enjoy exploring the Victorian castle and dungeons before having fun at the small theme park within the grounds where there are several rides, a maze, a water play area, Gnomeland and an outdoor play area.
The Quince Honey Farm at South Molton is home to one of the largest bee exhibitions, where visitors can discover the unique journey from ‘hive to jar’ and can see the inner workings of the honey bee. The Play Hive hosts a fantastic indoor play area and a Critter Cabin has a whole world of bugs for you to explore.
Enjoy a traditional cream tea in the cafe and buy the honey and other products from the gift shop. There is also a new outdoor play area and picnic area.
